Why Study Here
Learn how to work with children and young people in a range of settings and contexts.

Suitable For
This Apprenticeship is for people who work with children – from birth to 16-year-olds (and their families) – in settings or services whose main purpose is children’s care, learning and development.

Application Method
Application followed by individual interview

Entry Requirements
You should be working in the industry and interested in developing your skills. Good GCSEs are an advantage.

Content / Overview

Around 10% of jobs in the UK involve working with children and young people from birth to 16 and can include jobs working for local authorities in schools, colleges and nurseries or working for private childcare providers. Apprenticeships in this subject can follow various pathways depending on your area of interest. You may be working in an Early Years setting, or follow a route in to children's social care or playwork, but whichever route you take, your main area of work will be to make sure that children are looked after, kept active, happy and nourished, whilst also helping children develop social and practical skills.

Delivery Method
Training is delivered in the workplace and an assessor will monitor your progress and conduct assessments in the workplace.

Assessment
Continuous assessment throughout the course. You create a portfolio of evidence in the workplace and will undertake a small number of unit exams at College.

Progression
You can move on to the Advanced Apprenticeship.

Homework
You may have to complete sections of your portfolio outside of College or working hours.

All students aged 19 years or over on 1 September in the first year of their course are expected to pay tuition, registration, exam fees and all other course related costs. Some assistance with these costs may be available depending on your circumstances and the latest government funding position. There are normally no tuition, registration or examination fees to pay if you are aged 16-18 on 1 September in the first year of your course and are a British or European Union resident. This does not apply to HNCs/Ds, Foundation Degrees, Degrees or courses that do not attract government funding.
