Entry Requirements You should be working in the industry and interested in developing your skills. Good GCSEs are an advantage.
Content / Overview This Apprenticeship covers a wide range of job roles in the health and social care fields and is designed to meet national occupational standards. As an Apprentice in Health and Social Care, the nature of your work will depend on your employer; however you could find yourself supporting health/care professionals in care settings or in home settings. You might be working with people with a particular need, such as the disabled or elderly and you will learn practical skills such as completing records for individuals, communications, as well as supporting the car, well being and protection of individuals.
On the Health Care pathway, you could work in hospitals, the community, hospices or private clinics as a healthcare support worker or helping patients in hospital wards or their homes – serving food, making and changing beds and so on.
Delivery Method Training is delivered in the workplace and an assessor will monitor your progress and conduct assessments in the workplace.
Assessment Continuous assessment throughout the course in the workplace, through the creation of a portfolio of evidence and a technical certificate. An assessor will visit your workplace regularly to assess your progress.
Progression Completion of this course will stand you in good stead for progression onto Higher Education in subjects such as nursing or midwifery and operating department practitioner roles in the care sector or management roles in care homes.
Homework You may have to complete sections of your portfolio outside of College or working hours.
All students aged 19 years or over on 1 September in the first year of their course are expected to pay tuition, registration, exam fees and all other course related costs. Some assistance with these costs may be available depending on your circumstances and the latest government funding position. There are normally no tuition, registration or examination fees to pay if you are aged 16-18 on 1 September in the first year of your course and are a British or European Union resident. This does not apply to HNCs/Ds, Foundation Degrees, Degrees or courses that do not attract government funding.
