Widening Participation Strategic Assessment
In May 2008, the Secretary of State for Innovation, Universities and Skills asked HEFCE and OFFA for advice on how institutions’ Widening Participation (WP) and Fair Access policies| could be brought together into a single document. It was agreed that the submission of a Widening Participation Strategic Assessment would be made a condition of the continued receipt of the HEFCE Widening Participation allocation.
The purpose of our Widening Participation Strategic Assessment| is to provide a framework for all the WP activity undertaken by Guildford College during 2008-2011.
The strategy is underpinned by Guildford College’s fundamental commitment ‘To increase and widen participation to meet the education and skills needs of young people, adults and employers in response to local, regional and national priorities whilst promoting equality and celebrating diversity.
The overarching aims of the Widening Participation Strategy contained within the Strategic Assessment are to:
-
Continue to work towards an increase in the numbers and proportions of Higher Education (HE) entrants to the College from groups currently under-represented in its student profile.
-
Help to ensure that all students, regardless of background, have access to appropriate advice and support to enable them to reach the highest levels of achievement.
-
Help stimulate the desire of students to participate in HE by raising aspirations.
