The Estate

Merrist Wood's 400-acre estate incorporates woodlands, wetlands, livestock, gardens and grasslands in a rural setting. There are outstanding facilities for floristry, horticulture, landscaping and garden design. These include a campus nursery, workshops, design studios and specialist library facilities.

Riding Arena

At 90m x 36m the indoor riding arena is one of the largest of any college in the country and one of the top centres in the south east. It has been chosen as a pre-Olympic training venue for the London 2012 Olympic Games. It has three outdoor schools, two full accredited cross country courses, stabling for over 70 horses and a range of livery options. The centre hosts regular events and competitions, such as BSJA show jumping, dressage, lecture demonstrations and clinics by leading trainers and riders.

Golf Course

The 18-hole, par-72, privately-owned championship golf course adjoins the Campus. It has a clubhouse, well-equipped green keepers complex and five-hectare practice area including a sand-based tee area, bunker, practice nets, artificial mats and putting surface.

Animal Management Centre

The Animal Management Centre has specialist areas for large, small and exotic animals and a Canine Academy.

Learning Resources

Reading and research materials can be found in the specialist Learning Resource Centre. These include journals, books, newspaper, videos and DVDs. Information is also accessible electronically via the LRC website and from the College virtual learning environment GO! (Blackboard). There are group and individual areas for study and computer work.

Sport and Leisure

Merrist Wood Campus has:

  • A squash court outdoor tennis/basketball/netball court, multi-gym, sports pitches and cross country courses for horse riding and walking
  • Woody's Den, the student recreation area, hosting a range of games including table tennis, table football and board games
  • Regular themed parties, quiz nights and live music

Student Union

The Students' Union| organises recreational, social and charity events throughout the year starting with fresher's week and culminating in the summer ball. The SU is run by stduents for students, so the more actively involved you are the more fun you have! We want you to enjoy your time at College to the max. Make the most of the activities on offer, get your voice heard and if you are over 16 don't forget to apply for an NUS Extra Card from Student Services or www.nusonline.com| , at a cost of £10, which will give you discounts from Spectrum, HMV, O2 and other venues and organisations.

Food and Drink

At Merrist Wood there are various venues where you can get food and drink: 
  • The Landscape Snack Bar near the Equine Arena - offers snacks and drinks from 8am-2pm
  • The Courtyard Snack Bar in the middle of the Campus - offers hot and cold snacks and drinks, open 8.30am-4pm
  • The Café Bar - provides coffees, teas, sandwiches and cakes between 2.30-10.30pm, with alcoholic drinks also available at limited times
  • Woody’s, next to the Main House -provides hot meals and sandwiches between 8am-2pm and 5pm-6.30pm.
