Fee Reductions & Discounts

Who Qualifies for Fee Reductions?

Under 19

Students aged under 19 on 1 September 2010 are exempt from all tuition and most other fees including the annual administration fee, for the duration of their course (except those studying Higher Education courses including Foundation Degrees, HNDs and degrees, full-cost courses or courses validated by or franchised from partnership organisations). The essential materials cost and the costs of any trips and journeys will remain payable regardless of age. A full-time programme is a minimum of 15 hours per week.

Over 19

If you are over 19, you can get free tuition for a range of courses if you're getting certain types of benefit or financial support.

Essential materials costs, trips and journeys and the annual administration fee remain payable.

If your course is funded by the Government (marked with an 'X' in the Adult Course Directory) you'll qualify for free tuition if you're getting:

  • Jobseeker's Allowance
  • Council Tax Benefit
  • Housing Benefit
  • Income Support
  • Income Related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Pension Credit Guarantee

You'll also qualify if you're not working and you're financially dependant on someone claiming the above. If you wish to claim free tuition, you will be required to produce current, original documentation evidencing your means tested benefit.

NB: Disability Living allowance and incapacity benefit are NOT means tested benefits and therefore cannot be used as evidence for your Fee Remission application.

Skills for Life Courses:

There are no tuition fees for students of any age, attached to any course which is recognised as a Skills for Life course. These are clearly indicated where applicable.
