Media

Become a… freelance photographer, camera operator or technician, picture editor, cinematographer, video editor or work in related fields such as print media, film or journalism. Our brand new facilities for media will provide you with the ultimate hands-on learning experience! Get behind the camera and learn about angles and lenses, setting up shoots, filming, planning, production, editing, post production and formatting. Courses cover a broad range of disciplines including film, TV, advertising, multimedia, animation, publishing, moving image products and digitalisation.

Day to day

  • Setting up lights, cameras and sound systems

  • Managing booking and tracking systems

Income

Salaries for audio visual technicians and broadcast engineers start at around £16,000 but can rise to £30,000 and higher depending on experience. Video editors may start at £25,000 a year depending on work, experience and other factors. Salaries can vary widely depending on contract and length of work.


Moving on

You could progress to degrees in media studies, media production, multimedia technology, television production, media and cultural studies and others and employment in the industry as a runners, video editor, graphic designer, camera operator or technician.
