Guildford College student, Eleanor Potter, with her winning creation
Guildford College student, Eleanor Potter, was recently awarded first place in the regional heats of the World Skills Competition held at Manchester College. This is the second year in a row a Guildford College Theatrical, Special Effects, Hair and Media Make-up student has won such an accolade.
World Skills is an international competition which showcases the talents of young people from across the globe and encourages them to be the best in their skill of choice. It is the biggest vocational education and skills excellence event in the world that truly reflects global industry.
Eleanor’s category, Fashion and Photographic Make-Up, was based around the theme ‘Arabian Nights’ and Eleanor’s creation took the form of her own interpretation of this theme.
Eleanor will find out in August if she has made it through to the World Skills UK finals which are being held at the NEC, Birmingham in December.
Eleanor’s tutor, Jaceyann Smith, said: “Eleanor has worked extremely throughout the year producing a portfolio of excellent make-up looks. She progressed from Level 2 Hair and Media and has really come into her own during her Level 3 Theatrical, Hair and Media Make-up studies. An extremely creative student with both make-up design and application, Eleanor designed a fabulous mood board for the competition and designed and made the costume herself, along the hair design. She wanted to portray bright colours, such as yellows, purples and golds in a less traditional style of Arabian make-up. Eleanor has a true passion for the media make-up industry and has undertaken many placements in theatre during the past year. I know that Eleanor will go on to become a very successful make-up artist.”
Good luck Eleanor!
