Social Digital Students Graduate With Flying Colours On Pre Apprenticeship Course

Guildford College are proud to have been able to showcase the learning and incredible achievements of our very first cohort of Social Digital Pre-Apprentices, at an event held at the College in June.

A group of around 20 invited guests, made up of local employers, including Eagle Radio, web development company Minted Box Ltd. and Chartered Surveyors Tuffin Ferraby Taylor; local press, Surrey Chambers of Commerce and Penny Power, founder and DEO of the Digital Youth Academy; heard presentations from the group of 9 young people. Aged from 17 – 22, most of the young people had been referred to the course by Woking Job Centre Plus and any prior involvement in Social Media had just been for connecting with friends, unaware that they possessed a skill that businesses need.

The students, although showing a little nervous excitement, were largely unfazed by the film crew and media attention directed towards them and presented their fictional brand and Digital Marketing campaign to the audience.   One team, in just 10 days had created a Twitter Account with 150 Followers and had over 800 views of their You Tube video! To see the change in these young people was amazing – 2 of them were immediately approached by employers and the others have now raised their aspirations to such an extent that we are sure they will be successful in finding an employer.

Each of the students was presented with a course certificate and a signed copy of Penny Power’s book “Know me, Like me, Follow Me”.

The 10 day Social Digital Pre-Apprenticeship devised and written by Guildford College, in partnership with Digital Youth Academy, will eventually be cascaded through-out the country as more colleges begin to deliver the new Social Digital Apprenticeship.  The Services to Business team would like to thank everybody involved in making the course such a success.

The 2nd cohort begins Monday 2nd July, when we plan to replicate the event again during the final days of the course.
