The Government funds and regulates adult Further Education and skills training in England. They pay a proportion of the cost to deliver the course and expect the student, or a sponsor, to pay the remaining portion. This is referred to as the ‘tuition fees’ and is what we display on our guide. If a course or a learner is not eligible for government funding the Full Cost /international fees will be liable. Please note that the fees for government funded courses relate to ONE academic year only and may be subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances, including changes to Government funding and remission policies, so before enrolling on a course please check with the College for the latest information. Content / Overview
Level 2 Diploma in Hair and Media Make-up offers a combination of skills required to work within the Media industry. Offering cutting and styling skills for women’s hair and building skills in make-up application, eye treatments and make-up with photography. This will enable students to gain employment in salons, make up concessions, theatre, photographic and make over studios.

At least two GCSEs at grade 4 (grade C) or above, which must include Maths or English Language. Alternatively you should have achieved a Level 1 Beauty or Hairdressing qualification, plus Maths or English Language GCSEs at grade 4 (grade C) or above. You must demonstrate proven interest in the industry and have good references from your school or equivalent. You should also have a minimum of 80% attendance from your school/work/college. A GCSE in Art is also preferable.
Theory and Practical delivery. Practical assessment through observation and consultation within a salon setting. Theory to be delivered separately ensuring all key knowledge is delivered
Regular homework – assignments are required and regular revision tasks for each unit assessed.
Practical assessment through observation and consultation. Theory assessment through online end of unit exams set via VTCT. All other theory criteria is to be met via oral questioning and assignments where required.
Students are required to undertake work experience in the theatre, salon or photographic sector.
Upon successful completion of this course, students can progress on to the VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Theatrical, Special Effects and Hair and Media Make-Up course as well into employment into cosmetic / make-up and / or hair retail industry.
- All students will need to undertake the required amount of work experience hours (currently a minimum of 20 hours).
- Kit and uniform costs - £380 – £400.
- Educational visits will incur separate costs and will be advised.
All students aged 19 years or over on 1 September in the first year of their course are expected to pay tuition, registration, exam fees and all other course related costs. Some assistance with these costs may be available depending on your circumstances and the latest government funding position.
There are normally no tuition, registration or examination fees to pay if you are aged 16-18 on 1 September in the first year of your course and are a British or European Union resident. This does not apply to HNCs/Ds, Foundation Degrees, Degrees or courses that do not attract government funding (identified as 'no fee remission available on this course').
