Content / Overview 

This course will widen your understanding of the specialist skills and knowledge needed to help you begin a successful career in media production. The course is designed to be adaptable to your abilities and career aspirations. Units include - TV studio projects, stop-motion animation, single camera drama, experimental film, sound in film, critical approaches to media products and more.

On completion of the 90 credit diploma you will be able to top up to the second year of the course.

All 16-19 year olds on full-time programmes will be required to retake GCSE English and Maths or to undertake Functional Skills, if they have not already attained the equivalent of a GCSE grade C in these subjects, every year of their course, until they complete their studies.

Entry Requirements

At least five GCSEs at grade 4 (grade C) or above, including Maths and English Language. Alternatively you should have achieved a Media Production Level 2 Diploma at Merit or above, plus Functional Skills in Maths and English at Level 2 or above.

Lectures, workshops and practical exercises.

Further Study

On completion you could study a degree in media, cinematography or the moving image or employment within the industry as runners, video editors or Mac operators.

All students aged 19 years or over on 1 September in the first year of their course are expected to pay tuition, registration, exam fees and all other course related costs. Some assistance with these costs may be available depending on your circumstances and the latest government funding position.

There are normally no tuition, registration or examination fees to pay if you are aged 16-18 on 1 September in the first year of your course and are a British or European Union resident. This does not apply to HNCs/Ds, Foundation Degrees, Degrees or courses that do not attract government funding (identified as 'no fee remission available on this course').
