The Government funds and regulates adult Further Education and skills training in England. They pay a proportion of the cost to deliver the course and expect the student, or a sponsor, to pay the remaining portion. This is referred to as the ‘tuition fees’ and is what we display on our guide. If a course or a learner is not eligible for government funding the Full Cost /international fees will be liable. Content / Overview
This course is designed for people who are looking to start a new career in taxi or private hire driving, or those who are experienced drivers who wish to update their skills and qualifications.
You will develop the skills, knowledge, best practice and overall performance needed to seek employment as a modern taxi/private hire driver.
This qualification is a nationally recognised programme, and a mandatory requirement for a significant number of Local and County Council Taxi Licence issuing officers in the UK. On completion of the qualification, you can become licensed Hackney or Private Hire Drivers.
You will learn:
- Health and Safety in the taxi and private hire work environment
- Road Safety when driving passengers in a taxi or private hire vehicle
- Professional customer service in the taxi or private hire industry
- Taxi and private hire vehicle maintenance and safety inspections
- The regulatory framework of taxi and private hire industry
- Taxi and private hire services for passengers who require assistance
- Routes and fares in the taxi and private hire vehicle industries.

If English is not your first language, you will need an IELTS (Academic) 5.5 or equivalent that is approved by the Home Office, which is available at www.gov.uk.
The course is run over six weeks and requires all candidates to attend Guildford College to complete training.
You will be required to take and pass nine online tests to successfully achieve the full Level 2 Certificate.
Career as a taxi or private hire driver.
All students aged 19 years or over on 1 September in the first year of their course are expected to pay tuition, registration, exam fees and all other course related costs. Some assistance with these costs may be available depending on your circumstances and the latest government funding position.
There are normally no tuition, registration or examination fees to pay if you are aged 16-18 on 1 September in the first year of your course and are a British or European Union resident. This does not apply to HNCs/Ds, Foundation Degrees, Degrees or courses that do not attract government funding (identified as 'no fee remission available on this course').
